CWU and collaborators release findings of year long consumer debt project

On Thursday, November 13th, CWU and collaborators released the findings of their most recent study: From Opportunity to Burden: Profiles of Low Income Households Caught in the Credit Trap. One of the least research contributors to poverty, consumer debt can affect diverse areas of peoples' lives, ranging from degrading physical and mental health, to preventing some from accessing post-secondary education or securing employment. This study explored the roots of crippling consumer debt and its consequences, and makes policy recommendations to help Massachusetts residents combat its negative effects.

The result of a year-long collaborative study, From Opportunity to Burden: Profiles of Individuals Caught in the Credit Trap chronicles how consumer debt prevents low-income Massachusetts residents from achieving economic independence and makes service and policy recommendations for removing financial instability as a barrier to self-sufficiency.
