Cambridge — A Boston-based program focused on breaking the cycle of poverty in single-parent households is expanding to Cambridge.
The Crittenton Women’s Union is expanding across the river, bringing its Career Family Opportunity program to the Cambridge Housing Authority. The nonprofit held its grand opening for the Career Family Opportunity Cambridge program on Oct. 7 at the Pisani Center on Washington Street. The goal? To help 20 single-parent, low-income families in Cambridge become economically self-sufficient in five years.
Crittenton Women’s Union began its Career Family Opportunity program helping 17 South Boston families in June 2009. Since its inception, the program has helped 70 percent of the parents enroll or graduate from continuing education programs.
