Volunteer
Lend your time and talents to CWU in a way that fits your life. You can be on-call to help with individual projects, take on a formal internship, or create a long-term mentoring relationship.
Woman to Woman Mentors
The mentoring relationship is at the heart of our Woman to Woman (WTW) program. WTW mentors are professional women who are individually paired with a participant for at least one year.
Mentors work with participants in a variety of ways:
- Assist the participant with her resume and interview skills
- Provide job shadowing opportunities
- Assist with college research and application process
A Woman to Woman Mentor:
- Helps the participant establish realistic career goals
- Models independence, responsibility and professionalism
- Offers support and guidance with professional challenges
- Supports the participant's career development and growth
- Teaches problem solving skills
- Provides guidance on professional networking
Requirements include:
- 1-2 hours per week with participant (flexible schedule)
- Some telephone availability
- Attendance at mentor support workshops
Volunteer Children’s Activity Assistant
The Children’s Activity Assistant supports enriching activities for the children at the Hastings House, a 58-family shelter in Brighton. Children are ages infant to early teens. Possible activities include:
- Reading, writing, and/or literacy
- Arts and crafts
- Games and motor skills
- Parent/Child classes
Volunteer duties will include:
- Prepare materials for weekly classes
- Instruct children and manage behavior
- Lead clean up after activities
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Experience working with children;
- Creativity, patience, and understanding;
- Reliability and commitment; and
- Experience working with diverse populations.
Shifts Available: 1-2 hours weekly or twice per week, times are very flexible. Week days or weekends are available.

Volunteer Adult tutor
Volunteer tutors will work with women ages 18 and up who are guests at CWU's congregate facility in Brighton, Hastings House. Tutors will help guests with homework and other assignments from high school, GED programs, or college classes. Possible activities include:
- Essay writing assistance
- MCAS or GED test review
- Math instruction
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Experience and/or interest in adult education;
- Creativity, patience, and understanding;
- Reliability and commitment; and
- Experience working with diverse populations.
Shifts Available: 1.5-2 hours weekly, times are very flexible. Week days or weekends are available.
