Crittenton Women’s Union provides a residential meals program for its congregate housing sites in Brighton and Allston and conducts a for-profit food business preparing and delivering more than 1,200 meals a day.
Both CWU’s for-profit food services and its residential meals program operate out of CWU’s Brighton facility. The food services department serves three meals each day to approximately 130 CWU shelter guests.
Daily, CWU’s for-profit food services team prepares and serves 300 home-delivered meals to the elderly and delivers 300 kosher lunches to Jewish community housing residents. In addition, the food services department also runs the Jones Hill Café- open for breakfast and lunch- in the St. Mary’s Women and Children Center in Dorchester, while preparing more than 300 meals per day for their residents and program participants. This for-profit service contributes revenue that helps fund CWU’s direct services, research and advocacy.
In operation since 1990, CWU’s food service enterprise is equipped to accommodate special dietary needs and offers a variety of ethnic food choices as well as vegetarian meals.
