Crittenton Women’s Union is a Boston-based nonprofit innovator dedicated to developing new pathways to economic self-sufficiency for low-income women. Its unique approach—combining direct service programs (housing, alternative education, workforce development, and family stabilization), independent research, and public advocacy—helps 1,400 people annually break the cycle of poverty and build better futures.

Hastings House Admin Intern

Internship Title: Hastings House Admin Intern

Position Description: A unique opportunity to work with a dynamic team of Human Service Professionals who are focused on helping Massachusetts’s families, living in state funded transitional living programs,  develop skills to live independently supporting their families. Major focuses are projects/programs designed to foster self-sufficiency, such as financial management, career and education advancement to name a few. The internship provides an individual the opportunity for a hands-on experiences to see how a non-profit organization operates and how its programs intersect. The intern will be working with the following departments and programs such as Housing, Facilities, and Human Resources. The ideal candidate is energetic, willing to learn and likes working with others. Interns will:

  • Be an active member of a project team with assigned tasks
  • Participate in designing systems and tracking processes
  • Learn how to use quality Improvement methodology to drive change

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work on teams
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

Shifts Available: Flexible; minimum of 20 hours and up to 40 hours per week.
Internship Level: Undergraduate and Graduate students encouraged to apply.
Pay level: Volunteer/non-paid
Location: 10 Perthshire Rd., Brighton, MA 02135. Free on-site parking available.

Marketing and Communications Intern

Internship Title: Marketing and Communications Intern

Position Description: The Marketing and Communications Department is seeking an intern to work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications and Community Relations Coordinator, assisting with the organization’s efforts to convey a clear and consistent image, to position Crittenton Women’s Union as the “go-to” organization for low-income women, and to build positive public recognition and support of Crittenton Women’s Union. This is an exciting time to be involved with this forward-looking organization and an intern would gain valuable experience in the marketing and event-planning arenas.

Intern duties would include:

  • Assist with planning and execution of donor, fundraising and public relations events (Live! Work! Thrive! gala, Women for Economic Opportunity Breakfast, young patrons events, report releases, etc.)
  • Interact with departments throughout the organization to gather information about various programs for materials and projects
  • Write newsletter articles, press releases, blog posts, and other general assignments
  • Update and maintain clippings archive and press kit materials
  • Research, compose, and post features, event recaps, photos with captions and other content for the Voices Project Blog and CWU social networking sites (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Google+)
  • Manage social media sites (Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, YouTube) to increase visibility/traffic
  • Assist with maintaining and updating CWU’s website
  • Other administrative tasks as required

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Professional and/or volunteer event experience
  • Strong knowledge of web and electronic media
  • Ability to effectively utilize social networking technologies
  • Strong writing, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Research skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Basic HTML and Web 2.0 knowledge or skills – a plus
  • Experience using Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop – a plus
  • Experience with still and video photography – a plus

Shifts Available:Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM (hours and schedule flexible within time frame)
Internship Level: Undergraduate and Graduate students encouraged to apply.
Pay level: Unpaid/volunteer/Intern
Location:  One Washington Mall, Boston (Government Center)
