Communications and Events Intern

Communications and Events Intern

The Communications and Events Intern is a part-time, volunteer, temporary position based in Boston, MA. This flexible role collaborates closely with the entire Institutional Advancement (IA) team to ensure the department reaches our strategic and fundraising goals. During the winter/spring 2015 term, the IA Intern will be an important part of the team, working closely with the Community Engagement and Giving Coordinator and Director of External Affairs to provide support for the key responsibilities of the department, including fundraising events, media and social media, and donor cultivation activities. Training will be provided.  Due to the involved nature of the projects below, the successful intern candidate must be available to be on site a minimum of 3 days per week for a total of at least 15 hours per week.
  • Assist with planning, execution, and administration of donor, fundraising and public relations events (Live! Work! Thrive! gala, annual women’s breakfast, young patrons events, report releases, sporting events, etc.) 
  • Interact with departments throughout the organization to gather information about various programs for materials and projects
  • Write newsletter articles, press releases and other general assignments
  • Update and maintain press coverage archive and press kit materials
  • Research, compose, and post features, event recaps, photos with captions and other content for CWU social networking sites (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.)
  • Develop photo release collection procedure and tracking catalogue 
  • Conduct prospect research and maintain integrity of individual and corporate donor information, in support of annual giving campaigns, using fundraising database entry (The Raiser’s Edge) and MyCWU Intranet, as needed – training will be available 
  • Ensure accurate and attractive information is posted on various external philanthropic catalogues (GuideStar, Network for Good, etc.)
  • Input on other projects that arise to support the IA team throughout the semester 
  • Occasional administrative work, including filing, phone answering/reception, note-taking, etc. may be required. 
  • Timeliness, professionalism, accuracy and attention to detail are musts.
  • Initiative and ability to follow-through on tasks to on-time completion.
  • Strong writing, interpersonal, research, and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work well independently and also as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (in particular, Word and Excel).
  • Strong knowledge of professional use of web and electronic media.
  • Research and project management experience – a plus
  • Experience using Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, and/or InDesign – a plus
  • Experience with still and video photography – a plus
  • A strong interest in Crittenton Women’s Union’s efforts to help low-income women become financially self-sufficient 
  • Flexibility and good senses of humor and fun
Shifts Available: Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM (flexible schedule negotiable upon hire within time frame; minimum of 15 hours/maximum 32 hours;)
Internship Level: Undergraduate and Graduate students encouraged to apply
Pay level: Unpaid/volunteer/Intern; transportation incentive negotiable on a case by case basis

Program Intern

Internship Title: Certificate Program Intern

Position Description: The MMC-B Certificate program is seeking an intern to work closely with the Program Coordinator, assisting with raising awareness of a new program, building resource data bases as well as performing administrative duties. This is an exciting time to be involved with Crittenton Women’s Union and MMC-B to gain valuable experience in workforce development and education.

Intern duties would include:

  • Assist with developing data bases in the following areas:
    - Scholarships for women
    - Boston-based resources in training, education, career development
  • Perform administrative tasks such as required

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work on teams
